I tried the dewalt mag holder and bits and they didn't work AT ALL. Are there any bits better for impact drivers or is it just hype for higher prices? Same thing with impact sockets.

Most of the neo~magnets in bit holders are tiny rings or cylinders that are smaller than the bit. I've used all kinds of brands of bit holders, and have experienced bit jamming before, but I don't recall ever wearing out a bit holder to the point it would drop bits.
Worked at a tool store and the guys in the know always went for the Apex bits. There are other brands not represented here, but they weren't as easily available for me to test. Bit retention with this holder is impressive, thanks to a ring on the inside that snaps around the insert bits' grooves. That's a lot of screws.
