I tried the CCC 6.11 driver I found, but Direct3D was still disabled. Oddly enough, when I had a 128 MB card, it would only work properly when the Graphics Aperture was at 64 MB. I don't know whether it has an onboard LUT or it writes to the LUT used by the display driver. I re-read your OP, and saw you tried 7.7 which seemed to work but gave you odd images in game. The only ones I could find so far where Direct3D works are CCC 7.7 (except games are unplayable) and another version from September 2004.

I'm confused though originally your problem was you couldn't get d3d to work. The actual driver part seems to be working OK but the Catalyst software won't run. I really have problems with drivers and maybe the card itself. I tried to install the CCC 7.7 driver, and Direct3D appeared to be working again, but in a game, the images were distorted.
